Mid Spring – Seasonal Produce Guide

Cooking with the seasons is relatively easy and simple, it means shopping for ingredients that are at the peak of flavour and quality. Make the most of these ingredients in your kitchen and cooking will become easier rather than harder. Easier because the flavours are so intense that you don’t have to do much to them.

Mangoes for example are in season at this time of year, they are juicy, full of flavour, sweet and totally delicious. So it’s the perfect time to be using mangoes in ice cream, mousses, salsas, fruit salad and smoothies. They are also abundant and affordable, so it’s easier on the budget.

Mid spring also brings pawpaw, strawberries, cumquats and papaya back to our kitchens. Walk through a fresh produce market and you will see the vegetable stalls are filled with new season broad beans, artichokes, avocado, artichokes and broccoli and peas.
